| Property Description: |
Dobson House sits at 7,000 feet on a 100 foot hill in a rift valley overlooking the Rio Grande Gorge, near natural hot springs. All around there are mountains and desert. We offer luxurious accommodations and superb food.
The house is a 6,000 square foot solar adobe with natural adobe walls and stone floors. It is furnished in a comfortable southwestern style, and features the owners' contemporary art collection. Breakfast is served overlooking the gorge in the 1600 square foot common room, which is circular and surrounded by glass.
Dobson House has two suites, spacious (500 square foot) for two but able to accommodate four. Each suite has separate sleeping and sitting areas, a bathroom with tiled shower, and a self-contained stove for extra warmth on cold winter nights. All cotton linens, down comforters and pillows pamper our guests.
Guests are welcome anytime in the common room - it's great for bird watching or just looking at the mountains. There's even a baby grand you are welcome to play.
From the common room, you can see the Jemez Caldera above Los Alamos, San Antonio Mountain (the largest free standing mountain in the US), Ute Mountain (on the Colorado border), about 50 miles of the Sangre de Cristo Range just to the east, and a few miles of the Rio Grande Gorge north of Taos.
You can walk to the gorge and down the old stagecoach trail to Manby Hot Springs on the river.
We serve a full breakfast and refreshments in the afternoon. Wake up to hot coffee or tea outside your door. Begin your day with juice, fresh fruit, Mexican baked eggs served with chicken apple sausage and Texas pecan biscuits or corn cakes with applewood smoked bacon.
Afternoon refreshments include local goat cheeses, focaccia, fresh fruit and assorted beverages.
Amenities include an extensive library of books about the history of the Taos area, maps, guide books of driving, hiking and biking tours and an eclectic collection of fiction and non fiction. Gift certificates are available to celebrate a very special occasion - wedding, anniversary, birthday. Gift baskets may also be ordered.
You can sit and look at the mountains in all directions. Or you can hike, bike, fish, raft, ski, climb, visit the Taos Pueblo, take a llama trek, ride the Cumbres and Toltec Railroad, explore Bandelier National Monument or walk around Taos Plaza which is 13 miles south of us. | | Local Attractions: - Antique Shopping
